Roy Lichtenstein: Four Decades focuses on the "brushstroke", a theme central to Roy's work throughout his long career. The exhibition includes drawings, paintings and sculpture which range from his pre-Pop abstractioons through the lavish hedonism of the 1980's, to works from his two final series: 'The Chinese landscapes' (in which the brushstroke is ever present) and the monumental brushstroke sculptures conceived in 1996. Roy employed every medium, technique and scale in pursuit of his vision: small drawings in pencil and crayon, brushstrokes on acetate, collages, monumental brushstroke sculptures and a rich array of canvases. The exhibition invites the viewer to see the artist above and beyond the stereotypical view of Roy Lichtenstein.
